OUR HERITAGE

A THOUSAND-YEAR HERITAGE

Having parents from Somalia, we have always been surrounded by all sorts of natural home remedies and products to fix all sorts of problems. Knowledge that has been passed down, passed on from their ancestors, which they then passed on to us. These natural products have always been a constant presence throughout our upbringing, and gave us the inspiration to want to share this with the outside world.

As we got older, we realized that there was a strong contrast between how it was at home, and the Swedish society we grew up in. Chemicals and artificial ingredients dominated all the beauty products around us, which was a direct contrast to our own home where we protected the natural. That's why we chose to change the industry for the better by taking inspiration from our upbringing and our culture, and introducing alternatives that are more efficient and healthy.

For the industry this is something completely new, but in our family it is what it has always been - a view that beauty care should be simple, healthy and gentle, but above all: Natural.

Ancestors in the homeland, Heritage. 1960

Our parents were born in Somalia, where they lived in the nomadic spirit, with rites that used the gifts of nature and cures that were gleaned from generations of wisdom. Tradition and culture were their guide, and through these they learned to care for both skin and body.

But life in Somalia was not perfect, and in the search for a better place to live, our parents began a new chapter.

The parents in a new country, Sweden. 1987-1989

They moved to Gothenburg in Sweden. They learned to thrive here, but always kept a strong bond with their cultural roots. It was a major change to live in Swedish society, and the products they were used to were much harder to get hold of.

Our upbringing in 1997-1998

In 1997 - 1998 we both came into the world. We grew up in Swedish society, but in an African household. In the same culture that our parents grew up in, we got to immerse ourselves in how to take advantage of what nature provides, while learning about the Swedish culture.

The skin care industry & the challenges 2010-2020

By growing up in two different cultures at the same time, we gained perspectives for both worlds. We could see the strong contrast between Sweden's and Somalia's views on beauty care already in the teenage years. It was only chemical, artificial products, which was a huge difference from the natural we were used to. Even today the supply is poor for these products, we realized we wanted to do something about it.

Launch of Héritage 2023

That's why we chose to found HÈRITAGE, where our aim is to connect heritage with the present, and to celebrate these cultural traditions and beauty rituals. The goal is to make these treasures from all possible cultures available worldwide. We believe that everyone should have the right to natural and healthy beauty care.
